Clinical laboratory reports have been used in medicine for decades for a variety of reasons; diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring of therapy, and treatment decision making, to name just a few.
And, as you may be aware, the past 10 years have provided much insight into what has come to be called…”The Oral / Systemic Connection”, a rapidly growing body of evidence which links certain oral bacteria and viruses to some systemic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, stroke and some forms of cancer.
As we continue to learn more about the presence of oral pathogens and how closely related they are to your overall health, having detailed information about your genetic susceptibility and the bacteria and viruses that are present in your mouth can be critical in determining your oral and overall general health.
Expressions Dental is excited to now offer new and innovative salivary tests that can provide our patients with personalized diagnostic information designed to optimize treatment and enhance your overall health and wellness.
Introducing MyPerioPath: This test identifies and measures certain bacteria in your mouth that cause gingivitis (an early stage of gum disease) and periodontal disease (a more advanced stage of gum disease). MyPerioPath identifies the type and concentration of specific perio-pathogenic bacteria that are known to cause periodontal disease. This test helps support the clinician with better risk assessment and personalized treatment options for more predictable patient outcomes.
Introducing MyPerioID PST: This test determines if you are more likely to develop a more serious gum tissue infection, such as inflammatory periodontal disease. MyPerioID PST identifies individual genetic susceptibility to periodontal disease and enables the clinician to establish which patients are at increased risk for more severe periodontal infections due to an exaggerated immune response.
Introducing OraRisk HPV: This test determines if you are at increased risk for HPV-related oral and throat cancers. OraRisk HPV is a non-invasive, easy-to-use screening tool to identify the type(s) of HPV, a mucosal viral infection that could potentially lead to oral cancer. This test enables the clinician to establish increased risk for oral cancer and determine appropriate referral and monitoring conditions.
Here’s how the tests are done…You will be asked to “swish and gargle” with a sterile saline solution for 30 seconds. You will then empty the saline from your mouth into a small, coded container that will be sent to OralDNA Labs for processing. The results will be sent to our office and we will contact you to discuss them.
These quick and non-invasive tests deliver information that will enable us to better determine the appropriate treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Ask us if any of these tests may be of benefit to you. For more information, visit www.OralDNA.com.
